"The magic of paper transforms the cool electricity back into the eternal light of the sun. So that the warmth can fill our rooms even at night." Quote Isamo Noguchi. Starting in 1951, the Japanese-American artist and designer Isamo Noguchi designed the "AKARI LIGHT SCULPTURES" lamps, a total of over 100 hand-made models made of washi paper, as table, floor or ceiling lamps. As a name he chose the word "AKARI", which in Japanese is the expression for brightness and light, which also includes lightness. The AKARI lights are internationally recognized design classics; in the early days, Akari lights were sold via Knoll Intl. expelled. Today Vitra carries a selection, our models are no longer available there.
