In 1972, Braun expanded its range of household appliances to include coffee machines. The first model “Aromaster KF 20” presented at the time differed very clearly from the usual offers on the market in terms of shape and technical structure. Braun developed a closed filter system in which the water heater and filter were arranged directly one above the other. This vertical design in the so-called C principle corresponded to manual coffee preparation and ensured optimal aroma protection with a space-saving and user-friendly design. The following aspects were taken into account during the design: clear, closed shape, supported by the color scheme to highlight the individual functions, practical and user-friendly shape as well as materials and design that integrate the device into its operating environment and encourage its use. Florian Seiffert in the Braun design department was commissioned to design the first coffee machine. The result: "the most beautiful coffee machine in the world", the Aromaster KF 20. With relatively great technical effort, a device was developed that, despite... found many buyers and lovers due to its higher price. Viewed from different perspectives, the KF 20 appears equally harmoniously balanced. In the white version, the materials plastic and glass contrast, separated or divided to a particular extent by the black of the filter, the jug lid and the base plate. The matt anodized metal tubes underline the understated elegance. The smallest details, such as the transitions between the curves leading into one another and the fastenings of the metal pipes, are precisely designed. Radii and curves create harmonious reference points. The precisely designed vertical ventilation slots on the housing required additional effort when manufacturing the plastic parts. The KF 20 was justifiably used as a sought-after accessory in kitchen and interior photos from the 1970s. It was the ultimate coffee machine. There was hardly a more formally successful alternative. The KF 20 was produced for five years and was offered in white, yellow, orange, red, dark red and olive. In the original version, the glass jug still had a closed handle, which was held at the bottom by a metal band.
