from Wikipedia: Peter Max (born Peter Finkelstein on October 19, 1937 in Berlin) is an American pop artist of German-Jewish origin.
Born in Germany, his parents fled with him from National Socialism to China, where he grew up in Shanghai. After a few trips to Asia and Africa, his family lived briefly in Israel before emigrating to the USA in 1953.
Max was educated at the New York Art Students League, the Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts. After his studies, he opened a design studio and became a successful designer with his books, posters and products. In 1964 Max finished his studio work and began with his typical colorful print fabric drawings, which became known as "Cosmic 60s".
Peter Max's art was very influential in advertising in the 1960s and 1970s; At times he was active for over 70 companies.
